Living Large with a Tiny Footprint

Mercer Island, WA   |   2900 Square Feet

Typical setbacks, a restricted steep slope, wetlands and stream running through the site allowed for only a 32’ x 37’ footprint. Three living levels, linked by a glass enclosed naturally lit stair tower and visually through floor spaces, this practical and flexible design considered many possibilities with a ground floor garage and mudroom and a family room/guest suite, a totally open mid level with a great room, kitchen with outdoor covered eating deck and private library, and three generous bedrooms on the upper level. Cedar siding and windows, used with cementboard panels that accentuate verticality convey the home’s warm modern spirit.
